This is one of the greatest innovations in the 21st century. If you are creative and want to make a product, produce a film, or even cut an album, Kickstarter.com allows you to raise money to so. I recently gave to a campaign called, “I’m Fine, Thanks” which raised over $100,000 for their movie!
Already got a side hustle in place? Find a way to expand on it. If you offer house-painting services, consider adding another repair/maintenance service to your business. If you’re a freelance writer, consider offering website content writing services. If you offer babysitting services, expand your business and offer house-cleaning services as well.
Hello Philip–good list but most of the activities are so cliche and yet more creativity could be better employed here…this would make me work more hours for a little more pay and still keep me in the debt circle for so long. it would require me to worker harder so that i can make more money and yet am at the point where i want my money make more money with me getting less actively/ physically involved. Some call it ‘Working Smart’ unlike traditional options that have often helped many to stay afloat without helping them soar to financial growth and prosperity. Thanks though
Most companies who hire freelancers want the best and rightly so. You find that ALL of the freelance work requires some specialized skills. If you are not already an expert, you will have to take the time to learn. Earning a living online takes time and commitment. It may take five or ten years to build up your business or expertise. Realistically, you will be working long hours for pennies, but your bills won’t wait for you to get rich, so In the meantime, MacDonalds is hiring!
Many people do number 7 a lot. I know I’m guilty of it. I like to call it the “ready, aim… ready, aim… ready, aim…” but fire never gets there. Sometimes you just have to fire and then get ready to correct your aim.
Your Price. When establishing a price for your classes, start by calling around and finding out what other choices your clients have. If you plan to offer cooking classes, call some commercial establishments and other in-home teachers. Compare your own talent and experience to what they’re offering, and set a price accordingly. You should always come in a little lower than classes offered by commercial establishments as that will be one of your selling points: expert information for less money.
14. Create A Course Online – Do you have something you can teach? You can teach something online at sites like Udemy.com. There are courses online for just about anything, and you can charge whatever pricing you feel is right for your instruction.
Just because you don’t have the hustle and bustle of the big city breathing down your neck, doesn’t mean small town residents don’t have aches and pains and plenty of stress. If you’re a people person that likes working with their hands and meeting new people, this could be a great career and business idea for a small town. Massage therapy does, however, require a significant amount of training, so it’s not a business you’re going to be able to open in the next few weeks unless you are already a licensed massage therapist. There are, however, a variety of schools and programs you can enroll in to become licensed. Once your training is complete, being a massage therapist allows you to set your own hours, work when and where you like, and develop a strong repeat customer base.
A word of caution, to make money your product or service needs to be unique or stand out. So many people reach out to me about a new product they are planning to launch that 99% of the time is just a copy of someone else’s product. Either the course is the same, or the app is the same, or the physical product is the same. This is a surefire way to fail. Before you launch any product, spend AT LEAST 10-20 hours online researching other similar products and figure out what makes yours unique and why someone should buy it from you. And then sell that! If you can’t describe what makes it unique or valuable, then it’s likely not going to sell online.
My friend, Ramit Sethi, New York Times Best Selling Author, has created a powerful “Idea Generator Tool” that debunks the myth that you need to start the next Facebook or Google in order to build multiple revenue streams. Ramit shows you how you can earn an extra $1,000 a month on the side with just a few hours a week and you can ramp up from there.
Good point, Kay. With very few exceptions NEVER pay to start making money online. You don’t have to do it. You can find several free resources to help you get started. The only thing you’ll have to invest is your time, and a LOT of it.
Not all products have the same income generation potential, with some products you earn a commission when you make the sale, for other products, for instance Web Hosting, you can continue to earn a commision month after month after the sale, when your customer pays their montly subscription.
The entrepreneurs who talked me out of quitting were part of a little group that met weekly to hold each other accountable. It didn’t cost any of us a thing, other than an hour of our time each week, but it turned out to be the most valuable resource I ever used in my business.
Your work so tangibly and obviously provided me so much more value than what I paid. To anyone who is hesitating before clicking buy on one of your products I feel like shouting “DO IT, DO IT NOW, C’MON, BUY IT NOW!”
Textbroker – Textbroker pays up to five cents per word, if you’re a 5-star writer. You’ll start by submitting a short sample article and you will most likely start as a 3-star writer, but you can work your way up by writing more and writing great content.
You might already invest for retirement with a 401k, but, you can also boost your non-retirement savings with investing as well. If you like to pick your own stocks, bonds, and ETFs, a well-respected brokerage is Ally Invest. Each trade is only $4.95 which is as low as you can get for a conventional brokerage and still have access to research reports and charting.
If you have dreams of selling your own book, Amazon makes it easy to self-publish your own Kindle eBook for free. Amazon even offers a print-on-demand service too. It’s never been easier to begin selling your own works without a publishing house!
Example: Eric Bandholz began BeardBrand as a personal blog discussing business and sales strategy. Over time though, Eric’s passion for the bearded lifestyle kept creeping into his blog. Eventually, he went all in on his passion and began BeardBrand. A brand that sells beard grooming supplies to men that equally passionate about their beards.

If you have ever lived in a small town and entertained houseguests, you’ve probably often wished that your town had a bed and breakfast. Though small towns with a tourism industry will often have historical inns or at least a motel or two, towns that aren’t exactly Plymouth, MA or Williamsburg, VA often go without. That means no place for the in-laws to stay or guests for a family reunion or wedding. Opening a small inn or bed and breakfast can help fill a need in your area. If you’re worried about being able to keep your rooms booked, go small. Bed and breakfast owners tend to live in the same homes they manage, often converting their larger homes into B&Bs. This is a great idea for those who have recently become empty nesters with too many rooms to fill. If you’re later in life and looking for business ideas for small towns, this concept is a great one to explore.
Are you the one all your friends call when their sink is clogged or their roof is leaking? Are you looking to start your own business but not thrilled about having a brick-and-mortar location? A home improvement business might be just the small town business idea you’re looking for. When small towns lack a basic handyman, residents must book appointments days, if not weeks in advance to have a larger service visit their home. That’s not so convenient if your toilet has been clogged for three days. As long as you are qualified, have the experience, and know your way around a tool shed, starting a handyman business is fairly straightforward and requires little overhead.
One idea to make extra money that I left off my list is to use Ebates.com when you shop online. Ebates is a free service that gives you cash back just for shopping like you normally would. Join free now and receive $5 cash.
Tools. You don’t need much to work as a home-based freelance writer, but there are some tools that you must have. The most important will be your computer. Get the fastest Internet access that you can afford. It doesn’t matter what kind of computer you get. Just make sure you’re comfortable enough to spend a lot of time with it. Most clients will request that you submit your work as a Microsoft Word document, so make sure that whatever programs you use are compatible. In addition, because you’ll be spending so much time at the computer, make sure that you have a good work area with proper lighting. Some clients will want to be able to reach you by phone or Skype, so have both set up and accessible. You’ll need an invoicing program, such as Freshbooks, and a good bookkeeping system to keep track of sales, orders, and accounts receivables.
Samples. You’ll need some samples before you can really begin marketing yourself. Figure out which market you want to approach first, and then find or create some related samples. For instance, if you want to try your hand at blogging, study some successful blogs, and then write a few posts of your own to use as samples. Do this for any and every market you’d want to write for.
Do you like building something from scratch? If so, you can also get paid to design websites by companies and bloggers looking for their own unique theme. You can modify pre-built WordPress themes or use your own coding. Upwork and Fiverr are two places to get your name out, and, of course, your own website that will double as a piece of your portfolio.
If you don’t even want to set up your own website you can go directly through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing to reach millions of people instantly. Of course, you are dealing with a lot of competition but I know authors that make over $40,000 a month with their Kindle books.
